Who?
We’re looking for ambitious students who want to dive headfirst into Information and Communication Technology (ICT) studies.

When?
Our next intake offers bursaries for ICT-related tertiary studies starting in the 2025 academic year.

So, how do you get in? 

You qualify to apply for the 2025 bursary intake if you’re a South African citizen, 18 years or older, and have provisional acceptance to any South African university or TVET college for ICT-related studies.

Some examples of these studies could include:
• National Certificate: Computer Science
• National Certificate: Information Technology: Systems Support 
• National Certificate: Information Technology: Systems Development
• National Certificate: Business Analysis Support Practice
• Diploma: Information Technology
• BSc Computer Science 
 
If you haven’t yet applied to a tertiary institution to do ICT-related studies, you may be considered for bursary funding for a private tertiary institution, should you qualify.

You need to either be directly related to a permanent employee of Altron, be referred by an Altron employee; or be a learner of PROTEC – Altron’s socio-economic development initiative.

What is Ascent?

It’s Altron’s education fund that’s all about us supporting our people by providing ICT-related tertiary education bursaries for their relatives.

Who can apply?

South African citizens 18 years of age as of January 2025 and older, who are:
  • Relatives of Altron employees (child, sibling,  grandchild, niece, nephew will be given preference).
  • Referred by an Altron employee; or
  • Learners of PROTEC – Altron’s socio-economic development initiative.
You need to have provisional acceptance to any South African university or TVET college for ICT-related studies

Initially Ascent will be accepting applications from people who are African, Coloured, or Indian.

The combined gross (before tax) household income of the applicant’s parents or guardians must be below R600 000 per year.

How many bursaries will be rewarded?

In 2025, five bursaries will be awarded for the ICT realated studies. Three of these will be awarded to African, Coloured or Indian women.

Is workplace experience offered?

You’ll be given the opportunity to apply your knowledge while you study by working within Altron’s business units. You may also get the chance to gain more work experience within an Altron business unit, when you complete your tertiary studies. 


Workplace experience may be provided during the tertiary institution’s vacation periods. You therefore need to be able to travel into Woodmead in Gauteng, Mount Edgecombe in KwaZulu-Natal or to the Plattekloof office in Cape Town, to do this workplace experience.

What documents will you need for
the application process?

  • An affidavit confirming your relationship to the Altron employee.  
  • A certified copy of your ID Document. 
  • A certified copy of your Grade 11 results. 
  • A certified copy of your latest Grade 12 statement of results, or if you are currently a TVET college or university student, a certified copy of your latest statement of results.  
  • A certified copy of your provisional acceptance letter from the TVET college or university you have applied to if you’re going to be a first-year student in 2025. 
  • A certified copy of your proof of registration to a TVET college or university, if applicable. 
  • A certified copy of your fee statement, if you are currently an undergraduate TVET college or university student. 
  • Certified copies of your parents/guardians' pay slips to confirm their combined household income. Or, if they’re unemployed, an affidavit confirming their proof of unemployment.   
  • An affidavit confirming employment and income if your parents/guardians work in the informal sector. 
  • The employee number of the Altron employee you’re related to or has referred you.  
  • A certified letter of reference from PROTEC, if you are currently a learner there.
